The original photo of Woody Allen was taken by Phillipe Halsman. Halsman really got noticed in France when he started working for Vogue and soon began being noticed in the US and some of his pictures were used in well known cosmetic advertisements. Halsman's work has been featured in Life and Time magazines. He also collaborated with Salvador Dali to make a book of pictures. Halsman photographed many famous people including Albert Einstein, which was later put on a stamp. The photo of Woody Allen is very simple and creates a very mysterious mood. The photo is in black and white and the background is all white with some light gray. The photo is taken straight on and the focus travels up his arms and to his face. He has a very witty and empty expression that is also very intriguing. There is a contrast between the white background and the black sweater. The photo is asymmetrical and follows the rule of thirds. To recreate the photo i had my brother wear similar clothes and put of similar glasses. It was hard to get him in the same position and make the same face and I also had to set it up so that he was cut off at the right spot. Overall the photo is very similar although some of the positioning could have been better.
