Yann Arthus-Bertrand started off as an international journalist who specialized in the environment, wildlife, and aerial photography. Yann created the Altitude Agency in 1991 as a group of aerial photographers. UNESCO sponsored his study of the earth in 1991. He used pictures of the earth and its beautiful landscapes to create his book "Earth from Above" which later got turned into a DVD. He created the international environmental organization GoodPlanet, and set up the program Action Carbone to help reduce his own greenhouse gas emissions generated by his helicopter transports. Since then the program has evolved to help people and companies to reduce their climate impact.
